Shannon Connor Castle is a lifetime artist with a unique talent and extraordinary vision. From her beginnings as a commission artist, specializing in custom glass carving and design, she has evolved into a multi-faceted talent of breathtaking scope and diversity.
From a 2,000-pound, hand carved glass Harley Davidson, to pieces on canvas created from her glass carvings and then transformed with color, to hand carved and colored works on mirrored glass that evolve with a room's changing light, Shannon Castle’s works are unlike anything previously known in the art world.
Poised to break into the light after years of working behind the scenes for private clients, she just may take the art world by storm. Prepare to be dazzled.
Working in the physically challenging world of carved glass, Shannon Castle creates breathtakingly detailed one of a kind pieces that transcend common perceptions of the boundaries of the medium. Beginning with meticulously created sketches that are done to scale by hand then transferred and cut, also by hand, while carving with sandblast into cold glass, these images represent true individual artistic acheivement. Architectural glass installations, custom waterwalls, angels, mermaids, a 2,000-pound glass motorcycle: nothing is beyond the scope of her skill and imagination.
In the development of any artist there comes a turning point where they must either live their dreams—or give them up. Shannon Castle came to such a point in 2000, realizing she had to progress beyond the limits of commercial art. With a heart of rock and roll and the skill of the most adept of artists, she proceeded to reinvent her craft with a perfectly rendered, to-scale, nearly life-size Harley Davidson motorcycle—a 1958 Duo-Glide.
These pieces are painted on carved glass—some are portraits of actual clients, some are abstract creations, but each is unique, and uniquely striking. The beauty of these works is best beheld in person—as the light changes, so do the pieces which sparkle and move like nothing seen in the world of portaiture before this time. In person, the viewer can also touch the pieces and feel the carved three dimensional aspect which makes the figures jump quite literally off the wall. The jewels sparkle. The eyes gleam—a stunning visual element that will bring a "wow" factor to any setting.
The images on this page come from a technique using Shannon's original glass carvings almost like printing plates, to create images on canvas which use the figures in the glass as a starting point and then take their own direction from individual inspiration. Each piece is unique, signed, and numbered by the artist.
